Quimantu is a joyful celebration of life expressed through virtuoso musicianship, vibrant rhythms, and exuberant and sensuous melodies fuelled by a total passion for musical adventure. A richness of sounds and an inspirational approach to world music are the hallmarks of this group, which brings a sharp contemporary perspective to the music of Latin America.

Since it was first formed by Mauricio Venegas-Astorga in 1981 Quimantu has gained a reputation as one of Britain's finest Latin American bands. Never content to stand still musically, Mauricio's enthusiasm in pushing the boundaries in composition and instrumentation has ensured that the group has continued to develop through the past twenty-five years. The line-up now includes electro-acoustic violin and bass, alongside a host of traditional instruments from South America, Europe and Africa.

Quimantu's music speaks for itself, drawn from a bottom-less well-spring of poetry, love, sorrow and friendship. The result is a powerful musical message, which is a refreshing mix that has brought audiences to their feet to dance in venues across the UK, Europe and Chile.
